Life and Times
Cat Thomas' radio journey began in his high school days in Columbus, Ohio, where he first discovered his passion for broadcasting. His path continued through college radio stations WFAL and WBGU at Bowling Green State University, further honing his skills in the industry.
While attending The Ohio State University, Cat worked in the Research Department at WNCI and interned on the “Norman in the Morning” show at WCOL, gaining invaluable hands-on experience in programming and production.
Cat launched his professional career in Orlando at Y106 (now XL106.7), where he made a name for himself as the DJ for the MTV Spring Breakaway event in Daytona Beach. He then moved to Las Vegas, where he became a familiar voice in the market, hosting nights and afternoons at 98.5 KLUC. His impact was recognized, and he was promoted to Program Director at KLUC, where he led the station through a period of growth and innovation.
In recognition of his leadership and expertise, Cat was promoted to CBS/Las Vegas VP/Programming, overseeing multiple stations and programming strategies across the market. In 2012, he took a bold step and launched Cat Thomas Consulting, providing guidance and expertise to other radio professionals and stations while maintaining his position at CBS.
Cat's career continued to ascend when he joined Cumulus as Vice President of CHR/Hot AC/Rhythm programming. His next chapter took him to St. Louis, where he became the Operations Manager for Entercom’s newly acquired CBS radio properties. There, he shaped the direction of their music stations and continued to solidify his reputation as a strategic leader in the industry.
Cat returned to Las Vegas, during Covid, where he served as Operations Manager for Beasley Media Group. In addition to his role as OM, he was the day to day Program Director for Old School/KOAS which he morphed into 105.7 Maxima, Alternative/KXTE, and Hot AC/KVGS, where his impact on programming and talent continued to shape the Las Vegas radio landscape.
Over the course of his career, Cat has received multiple industry awards, including the prestigious Billboard Radio Personality of the Year award. He has also earned Billboard, Gavin, and S.I.N. awards for Music Director of the Year and Program Director of the Year. Additionally, he was honored with the inaugural Radio Music Award for Medium Market Program Director of the Year. Cat is a member of the Nevada Broadcasters Hall Of Fame, further solidifying his legacy in the industry.
